Shane McMahon made his walk to the ring as a video recap played from Elimination Chamber hyping Kofi Kingston’s championship match performance. Shane talked up the debut of Ricochet, Johnny Gargano, Aleister Black and Tommaso Ciampa from Monday Night Raw and said they were so impressive, they’d be on Smackdown as well. Miz interrupted Shane and walked down to the ring to apologize for losing the Smackdown Live tag team titles. Miz asked for a tag team title rematch, and after the Usos walked out and trash talked them, Shane announced the rematch for Fastlane.
Aleister Black defeated Andrade. Black connected on Black Mass for the pinfall win. Damn good match from two familar foes. I’d like to see more of this. (***)
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa defeated The Bar. Ciampa got a blind tag on Gargano and rolled up Sheamus for the win. The former (current) #DIY are 2-0 on the main roster and claiming some major victories already. Damn good match here and I want more. (***1/2)
Asuka said she’s ready for a new challenge. She said she beat Charlotte and Becky Lynch, and made Lynch tap out. She asked who is ready for Asuka. Mandy Rose interrupted her and challenged Asuka to a match.
Mandy Rose defeated Asuka. Lacey Evans walked down to the ring randomly during the match. Rose tossed Asuka into the middle rope and pinned her with a rollup. So that’s Asuka’s program going forward? Good luck with all of that. (**)
Ricochet defeated Eric Young. Ricochet landed the 630 for the pinfall win. Certain guys make Ricochet look better than others.
Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, Kofi Kingston defeated Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan and Samoa Joe. Kingston pinned Bryan after hitting Trouble in Paradise. I do enjoy a good six-man tag team match and whilst this one didn't entirely deliver with all of the stars involved, they still did some good work here. (**1/2)
After the match, Shane McMahon announced Daniel Bryan would defend his WWE title against Kofi Kingston at Fastlane.
Overall, I think we need to keep all of the NXT people on SmackDown. The New Orleans crowd may have been a touch friendlier than the Lafayette crowd, but who doesn't want to see #DIY against The Bar again? Or The New Day or the Usos? I know I'm down with all of that. We all had to know that Kofi would get another shot at the WWE Championship. SD Live going in the right direction...well, they could use something better in the women's division, but Raw's got that all on lockdown.
