Daniel Bryan is out by the Jacksonville concession stand to lecture us on our choices in arena food. As a person that’s worked in sports service, I can’t say I support this. He compares AJ Styles to a hot dog. Then he goes on about the high fructose corn syrup. He’s not showing these indy guys trying to enjoy some food any mercy. He moves on to the merchandise stand and notes that there are no Yes Movement t-shirts, as it is dead. There are lots of AJ Styles t-shirts & gloves for needless consumption. Bryan makes his way into the arena and says he’s changing the world. Like some other people in Jacksonville today! R-Truth is tired of listening to Bryan’s promo and attacks him once he climbs over the barricade!
Daniel Bryan defeated R-Truth. Bryan connected on the running knee for the pinfall victory. After the match, as he was making his way up the entrance ramp, AJ Style attacked him from behind and ran him off. Nice little match while it lasted. R-Truth got to show a little bit, but Bryan is the champion & dominated the man as such. (**)
Samoa Joe and Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas defeated Rey Mysterio and Mustafa Ali. Almas reversed Mysterio’s 619 attempt with the La Sombra for the pinfall. There was a good chunk of this match that we missed due to ads, but what we saw was pretty good. Rey pulling out some crazy stuff here & putting over the youngster…gotta give him some credit there. Carmella talks about how she’s seen as the third wheel in their match tonight. Charlotte learned how to use a kendo stick, and Becky Lynch learned how to have a personality. She points out that opportunity is all she’s ever needed. Mella is money.
The Miz tried to talk Shane McMahon into giving them a tag team title shot. Shane said the two needed to earn it.
Rusev announced that Lana isn’t at Smackdown after getting injured in his brawl with Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura went to the tv truck to show that he wasn’t responsible for the injury. As Rusev went to the back to attack Nakamura, the former champ attacked Rusev backstage.
Becky Lynch takes credit for making the SD women’s divison & says that Asuka is on borrowed time until the man comes around.
If The Usos Win, They Earn a Future Tag Team Titles Match: The Bar defeated The Usos. Mandy Rose distracted Jimmy Uso, allowing Sheamus to knock him off the apron and Cesaro to hit the Neutralizer on Jey Uso for the pinfall. After the match, The Miz tried to talk the Bar into defending the tag titles against him and Shane McMahon at the Royal Rumble. Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick before Cesaro accepted. Put the Usos, Bar or New Day together in some kind of match every week and I’m here for it. Really good action here. (***)
Naomi attacked Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville backstage before they turned the tables and beat her down. Jimmy Uso made the save and called them off.
Smackdown Live Women’s No. 1 Contender Match: Becky Lynch defeated Charlotte and Carmella. Carmella tapped out Carmella with the Dis-Arm-Her to earn a title match at the Royal Rumble against Asuka. After the match, Asuka came down to the ring and confronted Lynch. As you would expect, a solid effort from everybody in this match. Some would say that the right person won the match, but I would have preferred Charlotte win and then have Becky win the Women's Royal Rumble match. But oh well. (***)
End of show.
