WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2018 Full Card Preview & Predictions

November 17, 2018

If you're new or someone who only checks out NXT for the live specials, we've got a full preview of the matches coming up for you between now and bell time. NXT TakeOver: War Games (2018) airs this Sunday afternoon in Australia, November 18th, live on WWE Network. The latest NXT live special is headlined by the second annual War Games match, as well as Velveteen Dream challenging for the NXT Championship and a 2-out-of-3 falls match for the NXT Women’s Championship.

Let's get into the predictions:

WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2 Predictions
Undisputed ERA vs. Ricochet, Pete Dunne & War Raiders in WarGames

NXT General Manager William Regal announced the colossal four-on-four clash after The BruiserWeight joined forces with Ricochet, Hanson & Rowe to repel Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and NXT Tag Team Champions Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly during a riotous melee on the Oct. 31 edition of WWE NXT. The unhinged brawl followed weeks of collisions between Ricochet, Dunne and The War Raiders and The Undisputed ERA — a byproduct of Cole’s pursuit of the North American Title (a campaign that ensnared Dunne) and Strong & O’Reilly’s efforts to prevent The War Raiders from becoming the NXT Tag Team Champions. The carnage left Regal no choice but to embed both squads inside WarGames.

This one feels hard to call and I’m not totally sure why. I feel like there will be dissension between the babyface team will fail to keep it entirely together and lead to Undisputed ERA standing tall for maybe the last time before they head off to the main roster, but maybe they can hold together and win the day. Or maybe we even get a bit out there and have Dunne’s buddies from British Strong Style even the odds somehow? All I know for sure is if it’s anything like last year, there's going to be plenty of action, cool spots, and lots of highlights.

Pick: Undisputed ERA

Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT Title

Baszler and Sane’s contentious rivalry has simmered above blue flame for over a year, dating back to the Mae Young Classic Final in 2017. Since then, The Queen of Spades and The Pirate Princess have been continuously charring this angst in a series of epic confrontations. Now, they face off in an endurance-testing battle in which the first Superstar to claim two falls wins the match and NXT Women’s Title.

I'm really loving Shayna Baszler lately, she's really grown on me! Kairi has never clicked for me and did nothing with the belt. Shayna, however, elevates the belt, creates dynamic storylines and gets better every time she enters the ring. Regardless of the outcome, this needs to be the end of this fued. 2 out of 3 falls should make it interesting, but if we have to see this again, it’s going to feel stale.

Pick: Shayna Baszler

Johnny Gargano vs. Aleister Black

With Black and Gargano fated for a collision at TakeOver: WarGames II, there’s no telling what’s in store, beyond the certainty of a bruising grudge match. Will Gargano’s heinous deed — never mind his involvement in Black’s NXT Title loss in July — come home to roost? Or will The Dutch Destroyer find out that even his intensity can’t match the depravity of the new-look Johnny Gargano?

This is a tough one. This is the one I can see going both ways very easily. On one hand, Aleister is out for revenge for multiple reasons - Johnny cost him the title and then put him on the shelf. He’s going to be extra focused. But on the other hand, Gargano believes he’s the hero and perhaps this darkness works for him. My bet is they’re going to transition into the Black rematch, which would require a win here. If that’s the case, does Gargano taking a beating put him back on the right path or further down the wrong one? I’m dying to find out.

Pick: Aleister Black

Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT Title

The Blackheart’s pointed words came after Dream implicated him in the August ambush on Aleister Black. With Johnny Gargano since being revealed as Black’s assailant, the move may have been exactly what Ciampa claimed it was, a ploy to get the champion’s attention. Ciampa, who is no stranger to cerebral warfare, matched Velveteen’s sly campaign with a slew of cutthroat warnings, thus leading NXT General Manager William Regal to pit these testy foes against one another at TakeOver: WarGames II.

As much as I love Velveteen Dream, Ciampa’s insane rise to champion isn’t going to be cut short by him. Dream is amazing, but in this context he feels very much like cannon fodder. The story with Black, Gargano and Ciampa isn’t over and whoever takes the belt from Ciampa will certainly be one of those men. Regardless, this should be a fun match as their personalities are diametrically different.

Pick: Tommaso Ciampa
