Going Over Smackdown: Results & Analysis (23/10/18)

October 24, 2018

This weeks episode of WWE SmackDown Live comes from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

WWE recapped Big Show turning on the New Day last week. Kofi Kingston called out the Big Show and the Bar and said he wanted a fight with one of them tonight.

Kofi Kingston vs. Big Show ended in an all-out brawl. Big Show set Kofi up for the chokeslam, and the Bar and the New Day hit the ring, ending in a brawl. Big Show and the Bar laid out the New Day, with Show hitting the KO punch on Xavier Woods to finish off the trio. This was a solid way to kick off the show, playing off of last week, and solidifying Big Show & The Bar as a dominating force and also setting the rematch for Crown Jewel.

WWE recapped Roman Reigns’ leukemia announcement from Monday Night.

The Usos defeated AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan via pinfall. Styles accidentally hit the Pele kick on Bryan, and the Usos connected on a super kick before hitting the splash for the victory. They had another good match, with miscommunication between Styles & Bryan leading to the more experienced team picking up the win. Hopefully, this gets the Usos back into the tag title picture following Crown Jewel.

Next is video of Charlotte visiting the WWE Performance Center and giving her big sister talk to the NXT ladies. Becky Lynch arrives and interrupts and talks shit on Charlotte, and tells them not to make friends because they will stab you in the back. Becky then attacks and they brawl until the trainees hold Becky back.

We now get a promo from Charlotte, who says Becky has crossed a line and what she’s done is unforgivable. She claims Becky changed and there is no going back. Charlotte plans to win the title back on Sunday and will stand over a friend that lost her way.

Rusev defeated Aiden English via submission. Rusev defeated Aiden English after locking in the Accolade.

Miz hosted Rey Mysterio on MizTV. Mysterio and Miz jabbed each other on who would win the World Cup at Crown Jewel. Miz attacked Mysterio, who set him up for the 619 before he rolled out of the ring. Not bad, Miz was a great douche as usual and Rey working with him sounds like fun as an early program.

Rey Mysterio defeated The Miz via pinfall. Mysterio landed the 619 for the victory. This was a pretty good match, with Rey picking up another win ahead of Crown Jewel, and gaining momentum for the WWE World Cup to determine the best in the world.

A tag match between Asuka and Naomi against Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville broke down into a mini battle royal when opponents from the Evolution battle royal hit the ring. Asuka was the lone woman left standing. This was the old “everyone not regularly on TV or with a solid story” WWE go to in order to build a battle royal booking. It was fine but predictable.

Randy Orton Jeff Hardy via pinfall. Orton hit the RKO for the win. This was an ok but very lethargic match with next to no real energy at all. It was a really flat way to end the show.

End of show.
