Going Over Raw: Results & Analysis (25/09/18)

September 25, 2018

WWE Raw Results:

The show opened with The Shield arguing with Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre, with Dolph and Drew trying to convince Dean Ambrose that The Shield doesn’t care about him. Baron Corbin announced that Drew and Dolph would be defending their Tag Team Championship tonight, and that he would team with two partners of his choosing in a six-man tag against The Shield. I liked this, the heels presented a quality case to Ambrose, which is either planting seeds for a turn or just making us think that.

Finn Bálor defeated Jinder Mahal. This was an ok opener, designed to hype Mixed Match Challenge. I just wish Finn was doing more than he is right now.

Bayley and Alicia Fox were at ringside to promote the Mixed Match Challenge. Bayley cheated for Finn, causing her to get into it with Fox and Sunil Singh, allowing Finn to roll up Jinder off a distraction and win the match.

The Riott Squad defeated the Bella Twins and Natalya. It wasn’t good prior to Liv’s injury, but became even more disjointed after that as they couldn’t adapt from the initial layout and it largely fell apart.

Brie Bella kicked Liv Morgan in the face during the match, causing her to get taken to the back. Despite the 3-on-2 advantage, Ruby Riott won the match for her team with a Riot Kick on Natalya.

Stephanie McMahon and Triple H presented championship title belts to a pair of Connor’s Cure kids. Backstage, Triple H was asked about the Undertaker, and he said the Undertaker’s time is coming to an end.

Konnor defeated Chad Gable. Bobby Roode appeared disappointed. This was WEEK FOUR of Roode & Gable vs. The Ascension in some form. And after three weeks of Gable winning, he loses to Konnor. I mean, Konnor…

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre (c) defeated The Revival. This was a very good back and forth match, with the Revival digging deep into the tag team bag of tricks to try and take the titles before finally losing.

Ziggler and McIntyre won a competitive match with their Claymore/Zig Zag combination.

Bobby Lashley defeated Elias. This was an ok match with a completely flat finish. I get why they did it, to continue the feud, but it didn’t come off very well.

This started as a Kevin Owens Show segment, with Owens and Elias trying to get Lio Rush to come to the ring. During the match, Owens chased Rush and accidentally made contact with Lashley, causing a disqualification. Owens and Elias continued to chase Rush after the match until Lashley saved him.

Seth Rollins tried to convince Drew McIntyre that he was carrying Dolph Ziggler and should break up with him. McIntyre took that info to Ambrose and continued to try to break up The Shield.

Nia Jax defeated Alicia Fox with a Samoan Drop. Very forgettable and pointless.

The Shield defeated Baron Corbin and Authors of Pain.

AOP were Baron Corbin’s mystery partners. Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, and Braun Strowman sat and watched the match from chairs on the ramp. Reigns won the match for his team with a spear on Corbin. This ended up a very good main event, bringing back some of the fun and magic of the old Shield six-man tags. The AOP looked good, and Corbin smartly took the fall.

End of show.
