WWE Hell In A Cell 2018: Complete Card, Analysis & Predictions

September 16, 2018

As WWE begins its trek towards the end of the 2018 calendar year, Hell in a Cell has an opportunity to wrap up some storylines from SummerSlam and set the course for some new ones with the company's ambitions Super Show-Down in Australia set to go down in just a couple of weeks. WWE Hell in a Cell 2018 airs this Sunday, September 16, live on WWE Network in America and Monday morning from 9am here in Australia. The cross-branded network special (or whatever we’re calling “pay-per-views” these days) features two Hell in a Cell matches, as well as bouts for Raw and Smackdown’s Women’s and Tag Team Championships. Here’s the card as we know it:

WWE Hell in a Cell 2018 Card:

Hell in a Cell Match for the Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Braun Strowman

Hell in a Cell Match: Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella vs. The Miz and Maryse

WWE Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe

Raw Women’s Championship Match: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

Here’s what we think will happen...

Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match: New Day (c) vs. Rusev Day

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: They already announced New Day vs Cesaro/Sheamus at Super Showdown for the titles. I know, "card subject to change", but it's a pre-show match. Winners: The New Day

Brodey Wickenden: I’d say this looks like the easy place to finally give Rusev Day a pay off and have Rusev win something but the fact it’s on the pre-show has me thinking it’s just gunna be The New Day retaining. I don’t think that’s a bad thing but god, imagine if after all this time we still don’t get a pay off for the great stuff Rusev has been doing? Winners: The New Day

Matt Glover: Don’t know how much longer I want to see New Day as a just a tag division group. Time to go all in on Kofi or Big E for Smackdown title shot. This needs to happen before they to split them up which isn't going to happen anytime soon. I see New Day retaining here with some sort of shenanigans going on between Rusev and English. Winners: The New Day

Steve Jenkins: They’ve teased Rusev Day splitting up on and off for the last month or two, and no time would be better than after they lose a chance at tag team gold. Looking for New Day to retain, then Rusev to finally lose it on Aiden English. Winners: The New Day

Adam Barras: The battle of the days! And the question you have to ask yourself is if your rather be living in a New Day or in Rusev Day? None of this makes any sense and is irrelevant. I think with the push The New Day has received as of late and getting the titles so recently it's hard to go past them, which is a shame because Rusev Day have a lot of potential and I don't know that we will see them ever get a tag title run. Winners: The New Day

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: I can't see any logical reason to take the titles off McIintyre/Ziggler. The Shield really don't need them. Can't see it being a clean finish, but the belts will stay where their at. Winners: McIntyre/Ziggler

Brodey Wickenden: This one I can truly see going either way, 50% because either team winning is interesting and 50% because I don’t think WWE cares too much who holds the titles. I think The Show will retain, the main reason why being the way I’m tipping the main event to go. Winners: McIntyre/Ziggler

Matt Glover: Should be one helluva match and maybe the match of the night. Dolph and Drew should retain in this one also because Seth is still IC champion I can’t see him holding two belts at once unless they’re going all in again on the Shield as champions of the show. Wouldn’t be surprised if Owens shows up to help get Drew and Dolph the win and eventually feud with Seth for his title. Winners: McIntyre/Ziggler

Steve Jenkins: WWE is probably salivating at a chance to put every men’s title on the Shield on Raw, and I wouldn’t expect any less here. Rollins and Ambrose walk out as champs. Winners: Rollins/Ambrose

Adam Barras: Still incredibly shitty they didn't run with the name (The Show) Vs The Shield. I love Dolph and Drew as tag champs, with that said I am hoping this rumoured McIntyre push is going to happen, I don't think it makes sense to take the titles off Dolph and Drew just yet.

Smackdown Women’s Championship Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Becky Lynch

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: I don't see this feud ending any time soon, it will at least go through Evolution. If Charlotte wins clean the feud is over, Becky is done and Charlotte will be the female Roman Reigns, I don't think they're that silly. Should be either a screwy DQ finish or Becky cheats to win the title. I'll pick the latter for no other reason than I'm picking no other title changes here. Winner: Becky Lynch

Brodey Wickenden: With the rumours of a planned double turn here to capitalise on Becky while she’s red hot with the crowd, I think that lends itself to Charlotte returning to her cheating ways to get the win here and to build the title switch with Becky in the face role and Charlotte as the heel. Winner: Charlotte

Matt Glover: Becky has been the biggest babyface the company has had since Daniel Bryan all those years ago. So there's no chance she will get the belt any time soon sadly. I don’t mind this as long as storyline plays out to her being the underdog and perhaps winning the Royal Rumble next year? But WWE doesn't work that far ahead and will probably screw this up. Flair will win via submission with maybe some outside interference to get a re-match at WWE Evolution. Winner: Charlotte

Steve Jenkins: Becky Lynch is the hottest act on the main roster right now, and not putting the title on her is almost lunacy. So naturally, Charlotte wins here, keeping the chase alive.

Adam Barras: Becky is hot right now, but has so much more to develop in this heel character, it would be silly to let her win the title right now. Winner: Charlotte

Raw Women’s Championship Match: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: The only question here is how much offence does Alexa get in before she gets killed. Winner: Ronda Rousey

Brodey Wickenden: Rousey surely to retain here. It would be silly to have her build to this point be just snuffed out, especially when it’s been so effective. Hopefully they get to go out and have a more full match this time and allow Bliss to get some heat back. Winner: Ronda Rousey

Matt Glover: Ronda should get this one done quickly I hope. No reason to have long matches when is she still so green and developing as a wrestler. Hopefully this ends the feud between the two with WWE Evolution PPV fast approaching and Ronda needing something fresh for the event. Winner: Ronda Rousey

Steve Jenkins: Why should we expect anything different from their first match. Calling Rousey here, easily. Winner: Ronda Rousey

Adam Barras: I love this feud and I really rate Ronda. I think it's too early in the run (like I have mentioned a lot so far) for her to lose the belt, I see her character being all dominating and much like Brock. Interested to see how we continue the feud or if courses changing leading in to Evolution. Winner: Ronda Rousey

WWE Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: Hard to predict what way they're going here. Either result works, AJ can continue his (admittedly, somewhat bland) title reign and move onto opponents like the Miz, Orton and whoever else he hasn't faced yet. Samoa Joe would make for a good heel champion and could feud with Bryan (if Joe wins my prediction for Miz/Bryan in Australia switches to Bryan). I think AJ will go over since he has plenty of opponents left and we’re eventually getting to an AJ/Bryan match, possibly at WrestleMania. Winner: AJ Styles

Brodey Wickenden: I was convinced Joe was leaving SummerSlam with the title to set up a program between the two, while that’s not the way it’s gone I’ve been absolutely loving this feud. Again, I can see Joe waking away Champion to further this feud, even if it is to just get it back on AJ but the way WWE have been hyping up the length of Styles run with the belt, I’ve got a feeling AJ is going to retain and we’re going to see his reign build into a program with a focus on him hitting the one year stretch. Winner: AJ Styles

Matt Glover: Don’t want to see this feud end to be honest. Samoa Joe has been a master on the mic and deserves a title run in the near future. Being that there's no stipulation which is very odd being the type of PPV and how personal the feud has been. Expect these two to fight it out for a few months yet with AJ some how getting himself DQ’ed. Maybe Wendy will even make a appearance. Winner: AJ Styles

Steve Jenkins: Joe. Joe. Joe. Joe. Joe. Joe. Their SummerSlam match ruled and I wish this was a HIAC match at the end of the night, but as long as they get 20ish minutes to do stuff and they actually give it a finish this time, I’ll be happy. I think Joe wins here, but no matter what happens I can’t see this being the end of these two fighting. Winner: Samoa Joe

Adam Barras: Whoever wins, everyone will be happy, I honestly think it's time for AJ to drop the belt and I think Joe is the man to carry the blue brand. Part of me wants this to happen to see Joe walk in to Melbourne as champion. Winner: Samoa Joe

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella vs. The Miz and Maryse

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: This might be an okay storyline match, but I really fear for the quality if the women spend any length of time in the ring. Miz won SummerSlam, I assume Miz will win in Australia since it's a no. 1 contenders match. So Bryan needs a win here. Winners: Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella

Brodey Wickenden: I see Daniel and Brie picking up the win here. Miz got the win at SummerSlam, this is a nice place for D-Bry to get his win back before these guys meet in Melbourne for their number one contender match. Safe and smart booking. Winners: Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella

Matt Glover: I really hope Brie doesn't do a suicide dive and hurt herself. It’s been an alright feud but it's hard to hate the Miz when he’s so likeable on his reality TV show and pretty much everywhere else you look. Another feud that should continue but not sure who will get the pay off. It’s also sad that Bryan feels like just another guy again. Winners: Miz and Maryse

Steve Jenkins: Bryan and Brie will get the win here to even up this feud going to the Super Show-Down. Just please no suicide dives from Brie. Winner: Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella

Adam Barras: Looking foward to this one, a great way to continue a great feud. I really hope whoever comes away from this feud with the victory goes on to become number 1 contender. We know with these four we will see a solid match. Winners: Miz and Maryse

Hell in a Cell Match: Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: There is no universe where Jeff should be winning this match. I guess the only question is will he drop that Swanton off the cell? I predict yes (and miss, and there's your finish). Winner: Randy Orton

Brodey Wickenden: I see Jeff walking away with the win here. What ever out this world, crazy spot that boys got planned will lead us into the finish and the win for the enigma. It could just as easily lead to him crashing and burning to hand Orton the win but I’m hoping for the baby face to prevail. This is clearly the big blow off to their little feud with no clear next step for either makes its an interesting one. Winner: Jeff Hardy

Matt Glover: Jeff has promised as something we have never seen in a HIAC match which could only mean he’s jumping off the top right? Orton will be winning this match either way but at least it gives some fans interest going into the match. Winner: Randy Orton

Steve Jenkins: Why is this in a Hell in a Cell if Jeff Hardy doesn’t jump off it? We’ll have outside the cell shenanigans almost certainly, but calling Orton to win after Hardy does something dumb. Just don’t die, Jeff.

Adam Barras: This match has so much potential to steal the show. Jeff Hardy made it very known when he came back to WWE that he wanted to do a HIAC match before his time was up in the business, and who better to do it with than The Viper? I hope we see some huge spots and this tears the house down, but I get a feeling we may be disappointed. Winner: Jeff Hardy

Hell in a Cell Match for the Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Braun Strowman

Predictions

Paul Antonoff: Braun is headed directly for the Big Show/Kane role. JTTS who gets a win occasionally to stay strong enough to be elevated whenever someone needs an opponent. It's not the role people hoped for, but it's the role he's got. Roman just won the title after chasing Brock for a million years and it wouldn't make much sense to take it off him straight away. Braun will get the belt at some stage, even if it's just a token run but I don't think it's happening here. Winner: Roman Reigns

Brodey Wickenden: Braun’s winning. FIGHT ME! I think we’re going the way of the swerve, everyone thinks Roman is a lock in to win and it’s perfectly place for them to completely flip the table on everything and build The Dogs of War as the answer to The Shield like no team before them. Winner: Braun Strowman

Matt Glover: Not a chance in hell Roman drops the belt this early but I do expect something crazy to happen this match now the Foley is the special guest referee. Braun could finally be the guy that takes a giant fall from the cell as he's been the one causing chaos for the past 12 months doing all of his monster like things. Should be a great match especially now that we have Foley as special guest ref. Winner: Roman Reigns

Steve Jenkins: It’s hard to see WWE already taking the title off Reigns. Strowman’s endless chase for the Universal title will continue despite McIntyre and Ziggler’s best efforts to take the belt away from the Shield. Winner: Roman Reigns

Adam Barras: This is actually the match I least care about, which sucks for a main event. I think Braun wins here, let's be honest, he should have the title by now, shouldn't he? Winner: Braun Strowman
