Going Over Raw: Results & Analysis (28/08/18)

August 28, 2018

WWE Raw Results:

Braun Strowman promised to not cash in his Money in the Bank contract until Hell in a Cell if Roman Reigns would meet him inside the Cell, and Reigns agreed. Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre challenged them to a tag match, and Baron Corbin made it official. This took 15 minutes. This was a solid opening segment, with Roman Reigns & Braun Strowman (I liked their interaction overall) delivering and setting up their HIAC match and tonight’s main event.

Baron Corbin defeated Finn Bálor. Corbin initially lost the match by disqualification after using a steel chair, but announced that he forgot to mention the match was no disqualification, and had it restarted. He then won quickly with another chair shot and End of Days. This was ok, thanks to Balor, but Constable Corbin is already a cliché evil authority figure and Balor continues to be wasted.

Sasha Banks defeated Dana Brooke by submission with the Banks Statement. Banks picks up a needed win as Apollo & Titus argue before Apollo checks on her. The Titus Worldwide split continues to brew.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) defeated Kevin Owens. Rollins issued an open challenge, which was answered by Owens. Owens missed a moonsault, leaving him open for a Curb Stomp. After the match, Owens “quit.” This was a great back and forth match, with both guys delivering, and a molten crowd.

The Revival defeated Raw Tag Team Champions The B-Team. The Revival won a non-title match with the Shatter Machine. The Revival has dominated the feud, and have seemingly made a case for a title shot. The match was OK.

Shawn Michaels will appear on next week’s Raw to give his thoughts on Triple H vs. The Undertaker. WWE got pre-taped comments this week from Stone Cold Steve Austin, Booker T, Big Show, and Diamond Dallas Page.

Elias attempted to perform. He was interrupted by Trish Stratus, and they insulted each other until Stratus slapped him. Ronda Rousey and Natalya interrupted, which bled into the next segment.

Alexa Bliss announced she’s invoking her Raw Women’s Championship rematch at Hell in a Cell.

Natalya defeated Alicia Fox by submission with a Sharpshooter. Ronda Rousey and Trish Stratus were in Natalya’s corner, Alexa Bliss and Mickie James were in Fox’s. Well, that was a match that happened. At least it was part of some HIAC & Evolution build.

The Bella Twins will wrestle on next week’s Raw, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Bobby Lashley defeated The Ascension. Baron Corbin put Lashley into a handicap match. Lashley won with a Yokosuka Cutter on Viktor.

Dean Ambrose defeated Jinder Mahal. Ambrose wrestles without his shirt on now. He countered Khallas into Dirty Deeds to pick up the win. This was a short nothing of a match that Mahal managed to make boring. Can we relegate him back to NXT?

Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler was a no contest, we think, when Reigns tagged Strowman but Strowman refused to get into the ring. Ziggler and McIntyre continued to attack Reigns, and the match was thrown out. After the match, all three men beat up Reigns. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins tried to make the save individually, but were beaten down. This was looooooooong and boring, but at least it led to something.

End of show.

 Next week...
