Going Over Smackdown: Results & Analysis (15/08/18)

August 15, 2018

This weeks episode of WWE Smackdown Live comes from Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.

WWE Smackdown Live Results:

Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Carmella all talked up who would win the Smackdown Women’s Championship on Sunday at SummerSlam. Carmella tried to get the two to turn on each other, but Paige put her at the announce table and called for a tag team match between Lynch and Charlotte against Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. This was a solid segment to add to the build for Sunday’s title match.

Charlotte and Becky Lynch defeated Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. Lynch finished Rose with the DisArmHer. This was a pretty good match, with the twist of Becky refusing to tag in Charlotte and picking up the win to prove herself ahead of Summerslam.

The Bludgeon Brothers defeated three jobbers in an absolute... BLUDGEONING!

WWE chronicled The Miz’s rivalry with Daniel Bryan in a three-part video.

The New Day defeated SaniTY. Xavier Woods and Big E hit the UpUpDownDown on Killian Dain for the pin. This was an overall very good match with a hot closing stretch and New Day picking up momentum ahead of Sunday’s title match. It was a ton of fun, but it sucks for Sanity though.

Andrade Cien Almas defeated Aiden English. English got on the mic before the match and apologized for ruining Lana’s matches against Zelina Vega. Andrade Cien Almas got the win with the DDT on English. This was exactly what it needed to be.

Zelina Vega said on Sunday they’ll cancel Rusev Day and that Lana brings down her husband.

Jeff Hardy defeated Shelton Benjamin. Hardy hit the Twist of Fate on Benjamin for the pinfall. Shinsuke Nakamura tried to attack Hardy after the match, who reversed a Kinshasa for the Twist of Fate, then a Swanton Bomb. This was short but ok as Jeff gets momentum ahead of Summerslam.

AJ Styles cut a promo on Samoa Joe. Joe came out with a letter supposedly from Styles’ wife saying he’s a bad father who never wanted kids or a wife. The show goes off the air as Joe walked backstage. This was an overall solid segment to build to Sunday’s WWE Title match, I love Joe playing mind games with AJ, but it came off as a flat end to the show.
